Jennifer Midura takes up position of director of corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
Ms Midura officially took over her new responsibilities on Monday, March 2.
Having joined the company following the acquisition of ICI, Ms Midura played a major role in helping the board of management set the strategic agenda, which the company announced last September.
She was previously in charge of corporate strategy at ICI for six years and, prior to that, worked for McKinsey in London, UK, and Cleveland in the US.
Ms Midura succeeds Derek Welch, who joined AkzoNobel in 1998 and recently reached retirement age. Mr Welch was instrumental in negotiating deals worth more than €27 billion during 2007 and, according to Akzo, will continue to 'take the lead in key deals' Ms Midura's appointment.
As a result, the company will continue to benefit from Mr Welch's extensive expertise and experience, while also enabling him to work part-time prior to officially retiring at a future date.
