Wickes has confirmed that a new £3m, revolutionary store is being planned for Crawley.
Travis Perkins secured planning permission for the new-style showroom, which will be built on the edge of County Oak Retail Park near Astral Towers. Work will commence this September and will be undertaken by Mildren Construction.
The building work is expected to be completed in Spring 2017. The Harris Partnership architects behind the new store describe it as "a significant departure from the traditional Wickes store appearance with its inclusion of curtain wall glazing providing an elegant, contemporary profile as well as enhanced visibility into the showroom exhibits replacing the standard shelving to external walls display format."
It comes following news that parent company Travis Perkins will be expanding its body of UK stores to around 400 by 2020, with further plans to develop current stores in the pipeline for the next 12 months.
Refits and extensions have already taken place in Bognor Regis, Corby, Farnborough, Loughton and Stowmarket.
