Muslim leader who accused BNP thugs of snatching him from his home and driving him out to Epping Forest was seen on CCTV browsing the aisles of his local DIY store at the time.
36 year-old Noor Ramjanally claimed that he was abducted from his home at knifepoint by two men from the British National Party, bundled into a car and driven to Epping Forest. He alleged that, once there, the men threatened him and ordered the Muslim leader to stop holding prayer meetings.
However, Mr Ramjanally was caught out when CCTV was played in court yesterday which showed him getting in to a taxi and visiting his local Homebase store in Loughton, Essex on August 24, when the incident was alleged to have taken place.
Matthew Gowan, prosecuting, described Mr Ramjanally's alleged kidnapping as "complete bunkum" and explained that at the time he claimed to have been snatched, he was in fact "wandering around Homebase".
According to a report in The Telegraph, police trawled further CCTV footage and discovered that Mr Ramjanally had also walked to the spot on the edge of Epping Forest, where he was seen dialling 999.
Mr Ramjanally, a co-founder of Islamic community groups, was absent at the trial at Chelmsford crown court but pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice.
The trial continues.
