Another loft insulation war?

Published: 29 October 2009
Retail giants, including Focus and Homebase slash prices on energy saving products, even offering 'buy one get three free' deals, to entice customers to spend in autumn.
Another loft insulation war?
Focus is offering a 'buy one, get three free' deal on Space Blanket loft insulation for the next four days.

The deal, which ends on Sunday, November 1, is equivalent to £2.99 a roll of 150mm and 200mm loft insulation.

Earlier this month, Homebase ran a 'buy one get one free' promotion on Knauf Earthwool loft insulation, with 170mm priced at £10.

Cut price insulation sparked a price war between some of the top DIY retailers in February this year and the latest news looks like this is set to be a repeat performance.

Philips Genie Energy Saving 11W light bulbs were also on offer at Homebase, priced at 10p per bulb.

The 11W energy saving bulbs are the equivalent to a 60W incandescent light, which were recently banned from manufacture in the UK. Panic buying was widely reported following the September 1 enforcement of the ban, with customers stockpiling the traditional 60W bulbs.

Meanwhile Sainsburys has been offering five of the same Philips bulbs for just 50p in an instore promotion.
