General merchandise retailer launches new application for Apple mobile devices, which will allow customers to browse more than 25,000 products on the go.
The launch of the 'app' follows a traffic increase of more than 600% from mobile Apple devices to Argos.co.uk in the past year.
Designed to appeal to the growing number of customers using the online 'Check and Reserve' service, the new app will offer information on more than 25,000 products, a price and stock checker updated in real time, a store locator and user-generated comment with regularly updated customer reviews.
Multi-channel sales at Argos are now heading towards more than 50% of all company sales, with Check and Reserve accounting for 22%.
Argos head of multi-channel developments David Tarbuck commented: "Developing a mobile application was the next natural technology step for Argos to ensure we remain a significant shopping destination for the modern day consumer. In December 2009, visits to Argos.co.uk from Apple mobile devices topped 750,000 - so we know the demand is there from Apple users for us to provide this customer demographic with a mobile solution for shopping with Argos."
The move by the Home Retail Group-owned chain follows the news that
Marks and Spencer has recently introduced m.marksandspencer.com - a new shopping site specifically for use on mobile devices. High street retailer Next and clothing stores All Saints an Abercrombie & Fitch are among the few retailers to have already launched Iphone apps.
Mr Tarbuck added: "Our in-house development team have created a tool that gives customers with Apple mobile devices the quickest browsing and reservation shopping service in the marketplace."
The Argos app is set to go live in a few days time and the company is convinced it will be a big hit, as Mr Tarbuck explains, it has been tailored to suit the latest customer trend.
