Argos is set to boost its multichannel proposition with the launch of a new home shopping channel on digital television this summer.
The channel will launch initially on Sky, and Argos will be responsible for all production and content.
Argos md Sara Weller said: "The launch of our new TV channel will see us really delivering on our commitment to offer our customers a whole range of convenient ways to shop with Argos.
"Our most recent catalogue launch, in January, was the first to fully integrate our growing Twitter and Facebook communities, where customers can access our products, share ideas and discover lots of engaging content. Our ability to connect between channels means that the content we will be producing for Argos TV will also have wider potential applications online and instore, adding further to customer choice, value and convenience."
The TV channel will enable customers to explore the benefits of products in more depth than traditional print or online channels allow, said the company.
In the financial year to February 2011, 47% of sales at Argos were from multichannel, through a combination of internet, phone and home delivery.
A
decline of 3.1% in total sales at the retailer during the final eight weeks of the financial year led parent company Home Retail Group to lower its profit expectations.
Group benchmark PBT for the company, which also owns Homebase, is now expected to be between £250m and £255m for the year just ended.
