Asda non-food trading director Peter Pritchard will leave the supermarket chain following a reshuffling of its management team by chief executive Andy Bond.
Mr Pritchard's responsibilities have been handed over to food trading director Darren Blackhurst.
Mr Blackhurst, who joined Asda from Tesco Thailand, will now take on the role of group trading director.
In a statement Andy Bond said: "I have recently been looking at the roles and responsibilities of my executive team. One of the conclusions I have reached is that the clarity of our trading position should be the responsibility of one individual."
Commenting on Mr Blackhurst's new role, he added: "Food has continued to outperform the business plan, and the wider market, and has been a material factor in our recovery as a business. Darren is a natural trader, and I have asked him to take on the wider role as group trading director."
According to Asda, Mr Pritchard has chosen to pursue his career elsewhere after 12 years with the grocer.
