B&Q and Homebase Christmas ads hit the screens

B&Q and Homebase have both launched new advertising campaigns in a bid for a share of this year's Christmas spend.
B&Q is aiming to motivate consumers to decorate their homes even more extravagantly this festive season, positioning itself as the one-stop shop for all things Christmas - from fuller trees and outdoor-indoor lights that can cover every square inch of a roof, to animated dancing toys, Christmas jumpers and orange aprons.
A continuation of the Unleash series, the campaign is spearheaded by a 40-second TV commercial showing 'everyday heroes' whose clothes suddenly disappear to reveal an orange apron as they strike 'the B&Q pose' aloft an orange bucket. Only in this form are they truly ready to 'unleash' Christmas on their homes.
The ad culminates in homes across the UK 'unleashing' as B&Q begins to light up the nation, with the whole of the UK and Ireland lit up, seen from a satellite station in space.
The campaign will be supported by a 30-second ad that will try to persuade viewers to take part in the Big Switch On, a digital campaign encouraging Brits to switch on their lights on Saturday, December 6.
The new 30-second Homebase ad shows a family changing their uninspired dining room table and living room by revealing new Christmas decorations and homewares - everything from Christmas trees and lights to tableware and soft furnishings.
A dog also features in a spin-off ad exclusively created for social media, which depicts how even the smallest of spaces can be transformed.
