B&Q and Screwfix kit out polar expedition

Kingfisher retailers B&Q and Screwfix have supplied a range of equipment, tools and clothing to the South Georgia Heritage Trust, which is leading a conservation project to protect seabirds in the sub-Antarctic.
The trust is trying to eradicate invasive rats and mice from the island of South Georgia, in order to protect the native seabird population. It's the largest operation of its kind in the world, and it is hoped the trust's Habitat Restoration Project will restore the island to its earlier status as one of the plant's most important seabird islands.
Kingfisher group chief executive Ian Cheshire said: "I am delighted that Kingfisher has been able to support the expedition team through the provision of equipment, tools and clothing through B&Q and Screwfix."
The trust's project director Tony Martin added: "We have a unique opportunity to roll back two centuries of human-induced damage to this stunning polar island and its wildlife. However, the project depends upon the generous support of individual and corporate donors to achieve its aims and we are very grateful for the contribution from Kingfisher and the teams at Screwfix and B&Q which has helped our planning considerably."
The project will commence in February 2013 and is expected to run through 2015.
