The sale will also see the retailer slash prices across a wider range of products than it has ever done before, with customers able to benefit from discounts both instore and online from 7am on Friday.

The retailer has announced that it will offer up to 60% off more than 40 styles of kitchens, 29 bathroom suites and 15 bedrooms. Customers will also benefit from an additional 15% off all other products such as tiling, flooring, appliances, worktops and lighting. Promotions include a set of six integrated kitchen doors and drawer units priced down from £336 to £168.

The move by B&Q is in keeping with new figures from the BRC, which revealed that retailers will be running a greater number of promotions in the run-up to Christmas this year compared with 2009. The Christmas Trading Snapshot survey also found that 71% of retail businesses expect customers to bring forward purchases to beat the rate VAT rate rise in January, which may explain why many stores are so keen to start their sales early. B&Q however, offers a different reason for the early start.

Ceo of B&Q and Kingfisher UK Euan Sutherland said: "As a result of the tougher financial conditions, we're seeing more customers then ever opting to improve their homes, rather than moving. As a thank you to all our DIY devotees we wanted to make sure that our January sale would be one worth talking about, with no gimmicks. It's our biggest ever sale with price cuts across a wider range of products.

"We've also launched it earlier than ever because deciding on the right kitchen, bedroom or bathroom for your home takes time, with many customers booking in design consultations with our show room experts. Customers will now have more time to plan, design and shop the range as well as spread the cost of what they're looking for whatever their budget."

Just last month B&Q slashed prices on kitchen, bathroom and fitted ranges in a four-day extravaganza. The retailer offered customers half price on all kitchen doors and drawer fronts, Cooke & Lewis bathroom suites and Cooke & Lewis modular bedroom doors and drawer fronts from November 26-29.

Meanwhile Tile Depot has also announced an early start to its January promotions, with 50% off selected wall and floor tiles from now and into the New Year. The sale will also see the retailer slash rices on tools, trims and tiling accessories.
