B&Q closes Radlett depot, with 100 job losses

A B&Q depot centre in Colney Street near Radlett has closed down and 100 staff have been made redundant.
According to local press, distribution from the centre will now be filtered between Swindon and Doncaster. Staff were made aware in the summer, but according to one worker not all of them were given the opportunity to work at the new locations.
"They weren’t all offered it because distance-wise it’s not practical and so the majority were offered redundancy," he said.
“They’re all unemployed now apart from those who managed to get jobs; we have had one or two agencies come on site and interview various people for jobs and so one or two have got that.”
B&Q confirmed that the distribution had been moved to "keep up with the fast-paced industry requirements."
In a statement, a spokesperson said, "B&Q has moved its distribution work from Radlett to alternative locations and will be fully vacating the site at the end of November when our lease expires and we hand the site back to the landlord.”
Meanwhile B&Q's logistics provider Wincanton added, "Following B&Q’s decision to consolidate their fulfilment and delivery operations in Radlett, which will result in the closure of the current site and transfer to Doncaster and Swindon, we are working with B&Q to ensure that all employees are provided with the required support throughout this transition.”
