B&Q has confirmed that its store in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, will close this weekend - more than six months ahead of schedule and resulting in around 50 job losses.
As reported by the Belfast Telegraph, a B&Q spokesperson confirmed that the store would shut down this Saturday, despite initially being earmarked for closure in 2017. B&Q Sprucefield, meanwhile, will close by the end of the year.
Said the spokesperson: "We can confirm that staff at B&Q Sprucefield and B&Q Craigavon have been told their stores are set to close and we will endeavour to find alternative positions for as many staff as possible.
"Following these two closures, B&Q will continue to serve customers in Northern Ireland with stores located in Coleraine, Holywood Exchange (outside Belfast), Newtownabbey and Newry."
Five stores in total were earmarked to close across Northern Ireland, resulting in the loss of around 300 jobs. Stores have already closed in Londonderry and Balymena. It's part of B&Q's mass
culling of 60 stores across the UK.
