Last Friday saw B&Q stores up and down the country take part in a 'great sunflower grow' which saw the retailer give away thousands of Verve sunflower plants to children and their parents.
Supported by TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh, the giveaway was designed to encourage children to get in the garden and grow their own plants. It involved all 360 B&Q stores in the country, and each had growing experts on hand to ensure all sunflower recipients knew exactly how to plant and take care of their new sunflower.
Employees also encouraged children to take a picture of their sunflower and send it to them in a bid to break a Guinnes World Record later this summer. This will be for the amount of sunflower pictures showcased in one space in August, once the sunflowers have had time to grow. There will also be a special prize from the retailer for the child who grows the biggest sunflower.
B&Q celebrity ambassador Alan Titchmarsh said: "This is a fun way to get children inspired to garden, and what better way than to start with everyone's favourite flower, the sunflower."
