B&Q helps DIYers plan ahead

DIY chain introduces 'Rain or Shine' weather predictor to its website, enabling users to plan their DIY or garden project for the coming Bank Holiday weekend, whatever the weather.
The online tool allows users to choose or predict the weather, from sunny to drizzle or even heavy rain, and then provides a suggestion of suitable DIY projects that can be carried out for each forecast.
For each project, a full list of different DIY jobs are provided, such as building decking, setting up outdoor lighting, painting walls or planting in the garden. A number of 'how to' videos are also available to help users complete the tasks, while the retailer is also offering '3 for 2' deals on a wide range of garden and DIY products over the Bank Holiday weekend to help encourage spending.
B&Q is supporting the Rain or Shine campaign with national advertising in print and broadcast.
Meanwhile a survey by the retailer has also revealed that more women than ever are indulging in a spot of DIY. A study of 2,000 British women found that seven in 10 are now happy to do it themselves, with 82% saying they would rather paint a room themselves than leave it to a partner or relation. Almost half of women surveyed would also be happy to build furniture.
In fact, 73% of women feel they are just as competent at basic DIY tasks as men and this trend has also been seen at B&Q's You Can Do It centres, where more than 50% of those enrolling to DIY classes are female. The most popular classes are tiling, shelving and plumbing.
