B&Q, John Lewis and Harvey Nichols have joined forces with Skillsmart Retail to promote skills development in the retail industry.
Skillsmart Retail also announced the appointment of new patrons and board members to its organisation including B&Q ceo, Ian Cheshire.
Charlie Mayfield, chairman of John Lewis has agreed to become a patron.
He replaces Sir Stuart Hampson, the previous chair of the John Lewis Partnership, who has now retired.
Alan Roberts, executive chair of Skillsmart Retail said: "Retail is a diverse industry, which is reflected in our board members and patrons; from the independent retailer to the large multiples.
"As a result, Skillsmart Retail is best able to properly represent and serve the interests of all those involved in the retail industry."
Established in 2002, Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for retail, is led by retailers for the benefit of all retailers employing people in the UK.
It is a not-for-profit organisation, part-funded by Government.
