B&Q Motherwell to close

B&Q has confirmed its Motherwell supercentre is among the
60 stores to be culled by the Kingfisher retail giant over the next two years, according to reports.
The store, which has been trading from the Braidhurst Industrial Estate for more than 30 years, is thought to employ in excess of 100 workers. It comes just a few months after B&Q announced the
closure of nine stores across Wales and five in Northern Ireland.
A spokesperson for B&Q told the Motherwell Times: "We have let colleagues at our Motherwell store know that their store is one of those planned for closure next financial year.
"Our focus for the coming months is on redeploying as many colleagues as we can within B&Q and the Kingfisher Group."
Kingfisher has made no secret of its plans to scale back on its bricks-and-mortar portfolio, with chief executive office Veronique Laury admitting last summer that the company "[has] too many stores in the UK."
