The B&Q employee who created the now famous
living wage petition has encouraged others to stand up to unfair employers.
Kevin Smith, not his real name, gained more than 140,000 signatures on a petition urging B&Q bosses to re-think staff wage changes. Since then the DIY retail giant has
publicly backed down, announcing protection for all those employees affected by the changes.
Now Mr Smith has said that he doesn't feel that B&Q's response is enough, adding that he "will continue to fight for a better resolution for the hard working, loyal and knowledgeable people that work within B&Q."
He added: "The last few weeks have taught me a lot and tested my resolve on more than one occasion. I wouldn't change what I have done one bit, I am proud that I stood up and made public my feelings. I never expected the support and publicity my petition created."
Addressing the 140,000 who signed the petition, he urged anyone "that has been negatively affected or knows someone that has been negatively affect by the national living wage to do what I have done and start a petition.
"I know how difficult it is to stand up against the business you work for. The hardest part is taking the first step. But if we work together we can support each other. By naming and shaming you will give the power back to the staff and make a real difference for workers in your business.
"'If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.'"
