B&Q has pulled out of negotiations to sponsor the Football League from the start of next season.
The League had been expecting to sign a three year contract worth a reported £21m for B&Q to replace nPower as the backer of all three Football League divisions.
According to reports, talks broke down on Monday between the retailer and the League and, despite being initially enthusiastic about the deal, B&Q withdrew their offer. The League has said it doesn't know why B&Q changed its mind at the last minute.
The League had regarded B&Q as a good fit, as there are numerous stores located near its clubs. It means the association is now having to go back to the drawing board, and look at other companies who had expressed interest.
Domino's Pizza is reportedly in the running to replace B&Q as title sponsor.
DIY Week has contacted B&Q for a comment.
