B&Q starts 'biggest ever' sale on Christmas Eve

Published: 22 December 2009
B&Q will slash prices this week in a sale that will see prices cut by up to 50% from Christmas Eve.
The Christmas sale, B&Q's biggest ever, will give shoppers more time to buy before the VAT rate reverts to 17.5% on January 1.

B&Q are understood to have invested almost £200m in the sale, which is likely to force rivals Homebase, Focus and Wickes into making similar cuts, potentially sparking a price war.

I guess someone had to step into the MFI Christmas 50% off sale which to be honest always seemed to last the whole year. The sad reality is that the savings get passed back to the manufacturers. But I guess you have to do what you have to do in a recession to keep the tills ringing.
