150 jobs threatened as business review finds Scunthope site to be unnecessary.
B&Q has announced plans to close its Scunthorpe distribution centre on Foxhill's Industrial Estate at the end of January 2009.
Union officials are in urgent talks with delivery firm DHL Exel, who employ staff at the site, in a bid to save 150 jobs threatened by the closure.
In a statement released by B&Q, the company said that it plans to shut down operations at the distribution centre after a review deemed the site unnecessary. Some work may be moved to the DIY chain's site in Worksop.
"B&Q regularly reviews its distribution network to make sure it provides the most effective delivery service to stores, one which is both cost efficient and has minimal impact on the environment."
"DHL is wholly committed to a full and open consultation process with its employees, their elected and union representatives, and as this process has only just started, we are not able to comment on the outcome of the consultation at this time."
