B&Q to highlight climate change with LED lighting discounts

In a bid to raise consumer awareness of the environmental challenges facing the planet Kingfisher stores are to offer discounts on energy-saving products to coincide with the upcoming United Nations climate change conference in Paris.
B&Q stores in the UK, along with Kingfisher's French outlets, will be among those highlighting the importance of saving energy with special offers on LED lighting and home automation products.
Kingfisher sustainability director Richard Gillies told BusinessGreen.com: "Climate change is an abstract concept, but LED lighting improves energy efficiency on your home so is a bit more practical. So how can we look at what products we would encourage customers to buy while there is awareness?"
He said Kingfisher hoped world leaders would agree an ambitious deal at the COP21 conference, which kicks off in Paris at the end of this month, to help boost the company's efforts to deliver on its Net Zero goals. These include targets to ensure all its stores and customers' homes become zero carbon or net generators of energy.
Kingfisher has also put its weight behind
efforts to get the European Commission to toughen up over illegal timber sourcing. Mr Gillies will give a presentation on the subject at the conference.
