The latest waste recycling figures from Bents Garden & Home show that the Glazebury-based centre now recycles 98.9% of its waste, putting its target of 100% well within reach.
Bents has long been committed to reducing the amount of waste it sends to landfill; the garden centre has already achieved its 100% target in the recycling of combined recyclables, ie, mixed packaging, plastics, paper, card, wood and metals.
Managing director Matthew Bent said: "This is a fantastic result and a demonstration of what can be achieved when everyone works towards a common goal. We are always aiming for 100% and our colleagues have worked hard to review processes and research new opportunities for improvement, all of which are reflected in this impressive recycling figure."
In 2008 Bents launched its Five Green Footprints - areas where as a business it can help to make a difference and maintain sustainability. Its first Footprint is recycling, and as well as doing so with its own waste, Bents makes a policy of encouraging customers to do the same, providing fully recyclable bags, bio-degradable boot liners and on site customer recycling facilities.
The remaining Footprints are water efficiency, healthy living, social responsibility and trading fairly and responsibly. Bents also aims to reduce its carbon footprint and by growing almost 60% of its plants at on site nurseries has been able to significantly cut transport requirements.
