The industry's two leading trade associations The British Independent Retailers Association (bira) and British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) came together this week for a 'Tussle on the Turf' golf tournament.
With five teams on each side, the turnout was strong at The Welcombe Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was a friendly but competitive match, with bira members winning out in the end for the first time since 2003. Stax operations director Nigel Wright scored the highest individual overall score.
Bira president Vin Vara told DIY Week: "It was a really good day and very well-organised. It was very friendly, but competitive and bira was very pleased to go home with the trophy."
It had been the first time in 10 years the two sides played one another, with the trophy having sat dormant in BHETA's HQ until DIY sector director Paul Grinsell decided to revive the old contest.
"We're hoping to have even more participants next year," explained Mr Vara, "Perhaps seven or eight teams apiece."
