Flooring specialist today announces 90 redundancies
In a conference call to employees this morning, directors at Floors-2-Go announced the closure of 13 branches across the UK and a possible 90 redundancies.
The company has cited poor trading conditions for its actions and employees have been assured that they will receive full redundancy packages.
A manager at a Floors-2-Go branch told diyweek.net: "We have noticed certain cut-backs in the past year so we did sort of expect the news but it was still a bit of a shock."
He added: "They can't give us a definite on who will be going or which branches will be affected but we do know that 74 of the 90 redundancies will be branch staff. We are all pretty worried about our jobs."
Further details of job losses and closures are supposed to be finalised within the next two months, with information filtered down to employees through the system.
Birmingham-based Floors-2-Go operates 136 branches around the UK, specialising in a range of natural and laminate flooring products. It was reported in December that the chain planned to expand with a further 30 outlets in 2008.
Another employee was troubled by news of the closures. He told diyweek.net: "It's upsetting to hear because most of the redundancies will be in the stores rather than at head office."
He added: "I work at a Floors-2-Go branch and to be honest the company hasn't got a clue what they're doing."
