New research reveals Brits are opting for bolder décor in a bid to inject more personality into their homes.
With more people planning to stay put due to the credit crunch, it seems they are now 'loving their homes' rather than just living in them.
A recent survey by B&Q revealed that 32% of Brits admit to using bolder prints and vibrant colours when decorating, while 62% have plans to inject more personality into their home.
An impressive 86% of people surveyed said they bought paint in the last year, 63% have invested in new lighting, more than 50% have bought bed linen and 41% have purchased new flooring.
The results suggest that people are having more fun doing up their homes and feel confident to inject a bit of character - nearly two thirds of respondents have made, or plan to make changes to their homes now the pressure to 'decorate to sell' has been removed.
Wallcoverings are proving popular as ever with 17% admitting to creating a feature wall in their homes. Wallpaper sales B&Q also revealed that floral designs are the most popular as customers shun neutrals in favour of a bolder look.
So, what colours are the nation going for? According to the survey, a fifth of Brits have experimented with shades of blue and green in their homes, closely followed by 19% who have opted for yellow. 13% have gone for a vibrant red, while 10% have injected a shade of pink into their home.
