Following an anonymous tip received by DIYWeek.net, Homebase's new owner Wesfarmers has confirmed that 149 support role jobs will be axed over the next few weeks.
The anonymous caller claimed that several UK offices including Milton Keynes had been earmarked for the redundancies and that a consultation period was scheduled to begin from April 18.
A representative for Wesfarmers confirmed to DIYWeek.net that the redundancies would be made in the support function sector.
The retailer will be following the normal consultation process of 45 days, and will be discussing with the team the best way to go forward. It has also pledged to treat those affected with generosity and respect.
The redundancies are all part of the restructuring of Homebase as Wesfarmers moves towards creating a brand it describes as stronger, more cost effective and in a position to offer employees the best opportunities.
It comes after Wesfarmers promptly sacked several senior managers including md Echo Lu
just days after its takeover of Homebase was made official.
DIYWeek.net will have more on this story as it develops.
