Brexit not a concern, say tradesmen

A survey comissioned by Tradepoint revealed that the majority working in the trade don’t view Brexit as a major threat and don’t expect it to have an impact on the profit or loss of their business. In fact, TradePoint said the survey with One Poll showed many tradesmen are confident that Brexit will be a positive influence on the industry.
Of those small business owners surveyed, more than half had voted to leave the EU in the referendum last year, while 45% voted to stay, 7% said they did not vote and 2% chose not to say.
When asked about major concerns over Brexit, 45% of those working in a trade occupation believe their business won’t make a loss as a result of the country’s decision to leave the EU and that it will be business as normal whilst negotiations happen. Nearly a quarter of respondents (22.5%) actually said they thought their business would make money
For many of those surveyed, Brexit hasn’t yet had an impact at all, as only 30% said they think the UK has seen the effects of last year’s referendum result. Many are looking forward to Brexit being finalised, with a quarter of tradesmen viewing the opportunity for new trade deals with the rest of the world as the biggest benefit.
There were apprehensions over the loss of skilled workers, with 21% listing that as a top concern, while 12% worried about a price increase on bricks. However, four in five think the industry will support itself when sourcing materials. “For the industry as a whole, the outlook is a positive one for Brexit,” said Tradepoint, “with a mere 2% of survey respondents predicting trade to struggle or be less self-sufficient as a result of Brexit taking place.”
