British Ceramic Tile opens new £30m factory

Published: 9 October 2009
After two years of construction, the new premises was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal on September 18.
The Newton Abbot-based factory saw an investment of £30m from British Ceramic Tile and took two years to construct.

The site now has the capacity to produce seven million m sq of tiles a year, which the company plans to extend to 10 million m sq by the end of 2010, helping to meet its target of a 25% share of the UK tile market.

British Ceramic Tile executive chairman Konrad Goess-Saurau said: "Factories like this, which can compete in world markets and can link British design to British products, will secure British jobs for the future. Companies like ours are founded by shareholders who are prepared to invest long term."
