British company bucks trend

Shutter and blind retailer The California Company has reported a 26% increase in like-for-like profits for the three months to October.
The company took £270,000 worth of orders for the period in 2008, compared with £197,000 for the same three months in 2007 - in increase of £73,000.
The company has said that shutter sales account for 65% of sales and it is projecting a turnover of £3.2m for the current financial year.
