Brits committed to gardening in 2010, as GYO trend shows no sign of abating
The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) found that UK consumers' commitment to working on and enjoying their gardens remains undiminished and believes there is every indication that people will spend at least the same amount of time in their gardens as last year.

The association's latest consumer insight report, Garden Intentions 2010 also revealed that the grow your own phenomenon looks set to continue at great pace, with 45% of people with a garden stating that they intend to grow edible produce this year.

A growing number of people are also expected to spend more time working on their gardens this year with those aged 35-44 (32%) most likely to spend more time gardening. 29% expect to spend more time relaxing and entertaining in their gardens this year, while 57% expect to spend the same amount of time.

HTA director of marketing Andrew Maxted said: "Providing the weather is favourable and the economic situation continues to improve, the indications are that the garden industry should show further growth in2010. Any concerns that grow your own would be a one season fad appear to be unfounded and it is particularly encouraging to see younger people driving this trend as these will be our core customers of the future."
