Brits lack the confidence to DIY

While 78% of the population enjoy getting handy with a hammer, a large number of people shy away from DIY for fear of a job going horribly wrong.
A recent survey carried out by tool manufacturer Bosch, revealed that 78% of Brits enjoy carrying out a spot of DIY. The younger generation seems to be leading the way with 71% of 26 to 35 year olds 'doing it themselves' to save a bit of money.
However, according to the Do it with Bosch' survey, a large number of Brits suffer from a lack of confidence when it comes to carrying out practical jobs. 48% claimed that they dodge the toolbox for fear of a job going horribly wrong.
Other excuses include 38% who said that DIY gets pushed to the bottom of their 'to do' list due to time constraints, while 21% of men admit that they are just too lazy to DIY.
Bosch DIY expert Chris Tidy commented: "We Brits are nothing if not resourceful. When it comes to the crunch, especially in hard economic times, we are willing to have a go at anything. However, today's 'Dot it with Bosch' survey confirms my belief yjay we would all love to do more but our busy lifestyles means jobs get left undone, while other avoid the toolbox for fear of creating a DIY disaster."
To address the problem, Bosch has launched a 'How to' guide offering simple instructions for the most popular jobs tackled by he nation, including putting up shelves, hanging doors and painting walls.
The firm follows in the footsteps of several companies who have launched 'how to' information packs to help boost the nation's interest in DIY. Earlier this year, home improvement retailer Homebase introduced a series of guides to help homeowners tackle popular DIY tasks, while B&Q also offers 'how to' DVDs.
