Next is to take its Home and Garden format into the south east for the first time when it opens its third store later this year in Camberley.
The latest branch will be created from a former Homebase unit in London Road in the Surrey town. Work has already started on site, with the 43,000sq ft unit being substantially modernised and extended through the installation of a mezzanine floor.
A spokesperson for Next's real estate partner, British Land, said the development made "optimum use of the property's open A1 planning consent and dominant location". The store is prominently sited on the A30 a mile west of Camberley town centre.
The new Next Home and Garden is due to open this summer, with DIY and garden lines sitting alongside a fashion and home products offer.
Next already has Home and Garden stores in Shoreham, West Sussex, and Ipswich, and their success is encouraging the retailer to concentrate its efforts on rolling out the format. However, attempts to open a branch in Sheffield were scuppered at the end of last year when the city council refused planning permission for the scheme.
