Cardwell Garden Centre founder Eric Gallagher dies
Published: 29 August 2013
Eric Gallagher, the celebrated founder and chairman of Cardwell Garden Centre near Gourock, Renfrewshire, has died.
Mr Gallagher, who was 76, passed away earlier this week following a short illness.
It was only last year that Mr Gallagher was honoured with a lifetime achievement award from Greenock Chamber of Commerce, recognising his services to business and the local community.
The tribute coincided with Cardwell celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2012. The garden centre has grown to become one of the largest of its kind in the country.
Mr Gallagher had also been presented with a Rotary Club Paul Harris award for outstanding contribution to the community and, most unusually, a certificate of merit from the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society for significant contribution to horticulture in Scotland.
Mr Gallagher's funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 3 at 10am at St Mary's, Patrick Street, Greenock. No flowers, but there will be a collection for Ardgowan Hospice and Children's Hospice Association Scotland.
Cardwell Garden Centre will be closed for the full day of the funeral as a mark of respect.
