Carpetright sees sales go through the floor

Carpetright, the UK's biggest retailer of floorcoverings announced today a fall in first quarter sales.
Total sales for the 13 weeks to August 2 fell 9.2%, while a like-for-like comparison shows an even more significant drop of 15.4%.

Chairman Philip Harris said that people had "stopped spending at the moment on the home." He continued, "the trading environment in the UK has become more difficult and we can see this continuing for the rest of our financial year."
