Armed raiders escape with substantial sum of money after targeting cash van outside DIY store.
A cash in transit van was targeted in an afternoon raid outside a B&Q store in Newtownabbey, County Antrim yesterday.
Two men - one armed with a knife - escaped with a substantial amount of money after attacking the security guard and stealing the cash box he was carrying.
Thankfully, the guard was left uninjured by the attack, which took place at 4.45pm. Police in County Antrim are currently appealing for information.
Just two months ago, the BRC warned retailers to be vigilant following a spate of cash and valuables in transit (CVIT) robberies. According to recent figures, the first ten months of 2009 saw a 15% increase in offences of this kind compared with the same period in 2008.
