Closed Woolworths store to reopen as a Wellworths

Published: 17 February 2009
A former Woolworth's store manager has bought her old branch and intends to reopen it under the new Wellworths brand.
Claire Robertson, who had been manager of the Dorchester outlet for five years, was devasted at having to close her store which - unlike many others in the chain - has always made a profit.

She intends to reemploy her original staff and keep Woolies traditional lines like Pick 'n' Mix as well as a range of home and kitchen items.

Miss Robertson, who has been with the chain for 18 years, told the Daily Telegraph: "When we heard the news that it was to close there were a lot of tears.

"But I didn't see why the shop should close because it was profitable and was always popular.

"So I decided to open it myself and the name Wellworths cropped up."

Miss Robertson believes the name, which people in the area are already shorting to Wellies, will become as popular locally as Woolies was.

The Name Wellworths brings back memories of a former NI Supermarket Chain. They may still own this name as they traded under the Wellworths name.

hope this gets off to a flying start, the good news is she won't have to sell things that don't sell well, she can change the stock to suit her customers not fat cat executives........ best wishes

Well done!. This is what the country needs positive thinking, definate action and to become, again, a nation of small businesses making the banks work for their money.
