DIY Week Awards celebrates Gold wins
Published: 19 February 2014
A great night was had by all at the 2014 DIY Week Awards on Monday, with plenty of celebrations all round, as the likes of Yale, Bosch and Westland took home Gold awards, along with multiple and independent retailers - from Screwfix to Bristol's Cotham Hardware.
Almost 300 retailers, suppliers and representatives from right across the DIY, hardware and garden industry turned out to celebrate the year's successes at the black tie event at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
After a busy day at the Totally DIY and Totally Tools shows, guests were in the mood for a good night and enjoyed a pre-dinner drinks reception and comedy from compere Ian Moore before the recipients of the coveted Gold awards were announced.
Security brand Yale had a double win on the night, bagging Gold in the Security Product of the Year category, as well as an overall Judges' Choice award for its Easy Fit Smartphone Alarm.
Meanwhile, Screwfix was named Tool Retailer of the Year and Cotham Hardware took the title of Hardware Retailer of the Year.
For the first time this year, DIY Week also presented a Special Recognition Award, paying tribute to the significant contribution a person has made, and continues to make, to the industry. The accolade was presented to Colin Petty, former editor and publisher of DIY Week and Hardware & Garden Review and former president of industry charity the Rainy Day Trust.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who provided after-dinner entertainment, had guests on their feet and clapping along to the sounds of their rock bagpipe music, ending the event on a real high.
A full list of our winners will be revealed in this week's issue of DIY Week and will be announced online on Friday.
