DIY Week Awards - deadline fast approaching
The deadline for entries to the product and retailer categories of the DIY Week Awards is fast approaching.

There is still time to enter hotly-contended categories, such as Hardware Retailer of the Year, Garden Retailer of the Year and Power Tool of the Year.

Joint winners of the Hardware Retailer of the Year title, Thompson's Hardware and Wilbys Home Hardware tell us what bagging Gold at the 2015 awards did for them. Wilbys Home Hardware joint owner Tina Wilby told DIY Week: "We were absolutely elated and it was one of the nicest, loveliest things that have ever happened to us. I sat there enjoying my evening and then ended up on stage!

"It's nice to come home and show our customers and be proud of what we've done, and the amount of people who were really pleased for us was a real boost. It's given us the confidence to go forward and look at other shops, and that's where the fourth shop has come from really. It's given us the confidence to say 'let's do it'."

Thompson's Hardware owner Richard Thompson added: "It was one of the best things that have ever happened to us. We got about 50 cards of congratulations. People have been so generous and genuinely pleased for us. We're still getting people coming in and saying 'congratulations' now even though we won back in February. It's also helped put the village on the map."

Retailers across the DIY and garden industry can still enter one of seven categories:
  • Decor Retailer of the Year

  • Garden Retailer of the Year

  • Hardware Retailer of the Year

  • Retail Communicator of the Year (for those retailers that go the extra mile in communicating with, supporting and educating their customers)

  • Security Retailer of the Year

  • Store Manager of the Year

  • Tool Retailer of the Year

  • Suppliers still have time to enter nine categories:
  • DIY Product of the Year

  • Decorating Product of the Year

  • Garden Accessory of the Year

  • Garden Fertiliser/Chemical of the Year

  • Garden Tool of the Year

  • Hand Tool of the Year

  • Home and Kitchen Product of the Year
