Dobbies will open its most environmentally-friendly store to date in Aberdeen this week.
The new 47,000sq ft store is built with a timber frame and has renewable energy systems such as biomass boilers, energy-efficient light fittings, solar panels and grey water recycling systems which will be rolled out to all new Dobbies stores.
The new Garden World, opening in the west of the city centre on Lang Stracht, will replace the existing Dobbies store near Hazelhead Park.
It will feature a Farm Foodhall specialising in locally sourced produce, as well as a 370-seater restaurant with a deli bar and outdoor terrace.
The store will also feature a specialist aquatics department, a gift department and a larger selection of furniture for the garden and home.
Dobbies' chief executive James Barnes said: "The Aberdeen store is a concept for a new generation of garden centres in the UK and the benchmark from which we will launch all future stores. Opening our Aberdeen garden centre is a step towards our future vision to create stores which are carbon neutral. The Garden World is also in keeping with our provenance and heritage as expert horticulturalists since 1865 whilst providing a modern destination for today's consumer."
Customers will be welcomed this weekend with an array of events including gardening demonstrations and a jazz Sunday lunch.
