Dobbies lodges plans for £10m centre in Carlisle

Published: 18 March 2008
Orton Grange site forms part of expansion plans for 2008.
Days after opening a site in Southport, Dobbies has announced plans to open a £10m garden centre at Orton Grange, near Dalston, Carlisle.

If the plans get the go-ahead, it is hoped the centre will open in spring 2010.

Dobbies says it wants to open 'three stores in 2008, four in 2009 and more thereafter'.

"Dobbies has an ambitious expansion plan. The aim is to build a bigger business and take the total number of stores to almost 100 in the next ten years," Dobbies has stated previously.

The Orton Grange centre will follow the Dobbies template offering a 'day out' experience with farm foodhall, restuarant, and specialist aquatics department.

Plans - February 2008

  • A planning application has been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council for a new Dobbies Garden World at PeelPark, East Kilbride.

  • Dobbies Garden Centres is currently in the process of preparing a planning application to Mendip Council for a £6.5m Garden World at Fosse Lane, Shepton Mallet on a former Tesco site.
