Despite a huge petition to save Homebase in Holyhead, Anglesey, it is confirmed the store is to close and discount retailer B&M will move in.
The closure of Homebase means 30 staff will lose their jobs, but the opening of B&M will bring 80 new jobs to the town.
Those losing their job will have the opportunity to be interviewed for a position at B&M.
Anglesey MP Albert Owen told the Daily Post: "The
massive number of names on the petition handed to me in March highlights the strength of feeling surrounding this issue.
"I have been working with Holyhead Town Council on this matter and I have made my feelings and those of residents clear to all relevant parties and I look forward to new jobs coming to fruition."
Holyhead Town Council clerk Cliff Everett added: "The closure of Homebase had been bad news for Holyhead but now this has turned into a good news story with B&M taking on the site and creating additional jobs."
