Dragons' Den revisits Grillstream
Published: 21 October 2010
The inventors of the Grillstream grill tray will be featured on Dragons' Den this Sunday in a follow-up program to their first appearance back in August 2009.
Automotive engineers and BBQ fanatics Ian Worton and Peter Neath invented the Grillstream barbecue tray several years ago, which allows open bar grilling without dripping fats or oils, and so prevents flare-ups and charred meat.
The product is fully patented in Europe and the USA, as well as in the UK, where it is now built into Leisuregrow barbecues.
Although the pair were unsuccessful in getting investment from the dragons in 2009, on the advice of Theo Paphitis they have now licensed their product to a number of manufacturers worldwide, and the company is even moving into other products such as grill pans.
Jeff Moore joined the business in July 2010, and is hoping Sunday's episode of Dragons' Den: What Happened Next? is going to spark even more excitement in the business.
He explained: "They do follow up a number of companies that have or haven't had investments to see where they have got to. We're a good news story in the fact that although we didn't get investment, look where we are today.
"As far as barbecue sales are going, we have exhibited with Leisuregrow at Solex and Glee, so there has been a huge increase in the number of sales that they have got in their barbecues, because people are seeing this as a unique selling feature."
He added: "I'm just waiting to see what happens after Sunday's show. I think the phone's going to be ringing - this is a really different product."
The show will air at 9pm (8pm in Scotland) this Sunday on BBC 2.
