Dulux Colour of the Year is Indigo Night
Published: 28 January 2013
Providing "warmth, reassurance and comfort", Indigo Night has been chosen as 2013's Colour of the Year by Dulux.
Indigo Night was selected following research by an 18-strong panel of global colour and trend experts who specialise in different areas of colour use, brought together by Dulux parent company, AkzoNobel.
The team draws on social and economic influences from around the world, exploring a broad range of cultures and industries including interiors, fashion, beauty and design.
The result is an annual trend forecast known as ColourFutures, which presents five key trends for the year ahead and one Colour of the Year.
Said Dulux's senior global colour designer Louise Smith: "We're currently living in turbulent times and this is having an effect on the colours we want to wrap ourselves and our homes in.
"Indigo Night adds a surprising, elegant strength, with its deep, velvety quality offering warmth, reassurance and comfort to your living space. It's these characteristics that make Indigo Night a likely wardrobe and interiors favourite for 2013."
To encourage people to use colour in a more confident way, Dulux has invested in its online and social platforms, leading to increased paint testers, inspiration and advice. To support its Colour of the Year 2013 announcement, the brand will also be offering free Indigo Night testers, available through
www.dulux.co.uk/colouroftheyear and highlighting a palette of blue, building on Indigo Night and offering a broader selection of shades. And Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts has been chosen to promote the colour.
This spring, Dulux will announce its 2013 campaign, which will continue to promote 'Let's Colour' as a key message and be applied across TV and print advertising, PR and digital media.
