Dulux set to Ride Across Britain again for charity
Published: 5 September 2014
Today the Dulux Let's Colour Cycle Team is making its way down to Land's End to begin the epic Ride Across Britain event tomorrow, cycling 969 miles in nine days.
The 35 strong Peloton Team from Akzo Nobel paint brand, Dulux, will complete the gruelling journey from Land's End to John O'Groats, Scotland, picking up nearly 100 stage riders along the way.
Riding from Saturday, September 6 to Sunday, September 14, the main team will endure the psychological equivalent of running nine marathons in a row, the altitude equivalent of climbing Mount Everest twice, with the added discomfort of eight hours in the saddle each day, followed by 10 hours in a tent each night.
The Dulux team is undertaking this arduous task in order to raise money for its partner charity, The Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that that uses the outdoors to help develop young people from all walks of life.
Last year's Ride across Britain saw 67 Akzo Nobel employees complete the cycle route, raising £115,000 for the renovation of the Outward Bound's Centre in Ullswater, Cumbria.
This year the team, which includes research manager Gareth Crapper, RD & I director Anthony Woods, Clare Boyles and sales director Alistair McAuley, has set its goal at raising an impressive £140,000 for the charity. Meanwhile, back at Dulux's head office in Slough, employee Mark Dickinson will be completing his own challenge - riding a staggering 150 miles each day on a stationary bike. He will be joined by other volunteers who will be taking the 100-mile challenge each day alongside Mark.
