Easter boom for diy superstores

Published: 10 April 2007
10,900 sales per second and the best diy Easter since 2004
The two weeks of Easter will this year see over 106 million transactions – or 10,900 sales per second according to figures released by GfK.

The market reseach company estimates that more than £460m will be spent across the Easter period, with £130m spent over Easter weekend alone.

Over the same period for Easter 2006 £420m of sales took place in diy superstores, of which 25% were garden related.

Daniel Fearnley, account director for GfK Marketing Services says; "The conditions are right for Easter weekend 2007 to be a buoyant weekend of trading. In fact, this could be the best Easter sales since 2004 as consumers head to the stores and show their gardens some TLC after the winter."
