BRC lists value of Bank Holiday spending
This Easter is estimated to be worth £7.8bn to UK retailers, a four per cent rise on 2006, figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) reveal.
The BRC's findings also show £4.3bn will be spent in the run-up to Easter, with approximately a further £3.5bn spent over the Easter weekend.
In Easter week – up to and including Easter Saturday – shoppers will spend £832m more than an average week in April. On average, each household will spend £350 over the Easter weekend.
Retail sector highlights
Diy and garden retailers are set to see an estimated 6m customers spending a total of £2.9bn.
An estimated £100m will be spent on flowers and plants.
Consumers are likely to spend £3.1bn on food and drink up to and including Easter Saturday.
