At the European Home Centre Retail Association (EDRA) annual General meeting today, George Adams, managing director, European development of Kingfisher, was appointed president of EDRA.
George Adams, aged 50, takes over from Manfred Maus, the former chairman and co-founder of German diy chain OBI, EDRA President since 2004.
Mr Adams' tenure is for the period 2007-2009.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: "As President of EDRA I'm looking to encourage the development of the home improvement industry across Europe as a major force in helping people improve their homes whilst reducing their environmental impact."
As well as his role as European development md, he is chief executive of Kingfisher's UK Trade Division, which comprises Screwfix and Trade Depot.
EDRA promotes and protects the interests of the home improvement sector, and aims to improve the quality of the legislation affecting the sector.
It has members from 13 European Countries and represents almost 90% of European diy retail sales.
