EHT boosts John Lewis' weekly sales

Published: 26 August 2011
Department store reports 3% uplift in sales for the week ended August 26, with fans, cooling equipment and large and small electricals selling well.
Sales in John Lewis' electrical and home technology division were up 7.7% for the week, compared with the same period last year. Large and small electricals performed well, adding another successful week to its run of strongly positive year-on-year growth. Fans and cooling equipment also saw strong sales.

Across the group, sales were up an average of 7% during the week but Saturday "refused to follow suit" said the retailer, resulting in a 3% uplift on last year, with sales of £53.4m.

Home sales dipped slightly on last year's performance, down 1.7%, as shoppers shied away from fitted furniture and living and dining. Bedroom and accessories and gifts, however, reported strong trading.
