Tile Depot is set for expansion after extending its warehousing capacity by nearly 20%.
The extension and reconfiguration has improved efficiency and reduced picking time, meaning the company can get new products out to all stores within 48 hours. The warehouse can now hold nearly a million tiles in more than 1,300 pallets at any one time.
Reports have suggested that Tile Depot is looking to open 15 stores across London and the South East, doubling its store portfolio, but the company would not confirm numbers.
Like-for-like sales were up 4% for the first two months of 2011 despite the tough economic climate. Tile Depot md Danny Steptoe told
DIY Week: "The market is challenging but we're doing ok and will be well-placed to take advantage of the recovery when it comes. Our expansion plans are progressing. However, I'm not in a position to give any more details at the moment."
