Family-run hardware store opens for business
Published: 26 February 2014
Two brothers have opened Lea Road Hardware in Penn Fields, Wolverhampton because they claimed the community desperately needed a hardware store after the closure of three others in the area.
Mohammed Riaz and Ghulam Abbas will run the business with the help of their family.
Mr Abbas told diyweek.net that the community have welcomed the opening of the store.
He said: "People had to travel far out of the way to get all of their DIY bits and bobs, but now we have opened they no longer have to do that. Every customer that has come into the store has said there was a need for it after the closure of three others in the area and thanked us.
"My brother is a carpentry specialist and because of the recession I was going to places like B&Q to get all of materials I would need to do my own home improvements and that was how I developed the idea of opening the hardware store. I have lived in the area for around 35 years and have forged a relationship with the community and know the importance of local business.
"We sell products from local suppliers and manufacturers. You name it we will sell it.
"If this business goes well we will continue expanding and serving the community for many years."
Lea Road Hardware officially opened for business on Friday, February 21.
